Headed Uptown

June 19, 2013
Want to know a fun fact about the beautiful city of Charlotte? Downtown Charlotte is actually known as Uptown. Funny, right? According to the alums we had dinner with last night, the name change was part of the city's attempt to rejuvinate downtown Charlotte and make it more "inspiring." The things you learn! Our adventures in Charlotte began with a trip to a cute little boardwalk outside of the city. We got lunch and snapped some photos (of Fandango, of course) before heading off to the speedway so he could make his racing debut.

Isn't he such a star?

After all of that, we headed to the King's Kitchen to have a great meal and some great fellowship.

If you ever find yourself in Charlotte, or even anywhere near Charlotte, you have to find this place. The King's Kitchen is a nonprofit restaurant that uses fresh, local ingredients in their food and proceeds go back to helping those in need within the community. You can find more information here. The food is absolutely outstanding and the waitstaff is sweet as can be. Though we originally made a reservation for 12, we ended up with a party of 16. There were several alums visiting the area who decided to meet up with us at the last minute, and despite all of that confusion and our large party, the King's Kitchen staff made sure everything was taken care of!

Throughout the evening, we heard many stories from many different times throughout Messiah's history. Though the details differed, the common thread of Messiah's mission remained the same and for that, we are truly thankful. It was a great evening connecting with alumni from a wide range of class years, including some that just graduated this past May. Though we leave Charlotte behind and journey on to Richmond we are thankful for the time we got to spend in a beautiful city with great people, and we wish we could've stayed longer.
